It is reset time and it starts in Porto: WOMEX 2021 applications are now open

WOMEX 2021 applications are open. The most relevant music support and development projects event in the global music scene - the World Music Expo – will be held in Porto, an absolute debut in the country, between 27 and 31 October. WOMEX will introduce thousands of music makers and music lovers from over 90 countries, in the Invicta.

Rui Moreira says that “credit is due to all” that the city is today “profoundly different”

Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto assessed some of the most significant projects that have been developed in the city of Porto, throughout the past years, from urban rehabilitation to housing, through mobility, environment and sustainability, highlighting that this evolution is due to a “virtuous circle between public and private policies”. For each euro of public investment, “the multiplier effect varies between 20 to 30 euros of private investment”, the Mayor added.

Feira dos Passarinhos will be momentarily relocated until July

The Feira dos Passarinhos, which is normally set up in the Alameda das Fontainhas, will be relocated to Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, on grounds of public space organization and to give new impetus to the city, under the support to the itinerant entertainment business sector. This is a temporary move, which will be in place between 23 May and 10 July.

Thierry Neuville will donate up to 10 thousand euros to a social charity in Porto

Each stage of the World Rally Championship, Belgian rally driver Thierry Neuville of Hyundai Motorsport, chooses a local association to donate, at least, two thousand euros. This amount doubles if the Belgian pilot finishes second or third in the race, and can go up to 10 thousand euros if he gets first podium place in the Rally de Portugal, which already happened in 2018.

Rally pilots do the warm up leg racing of the Foz do Douro

Starting at 3.30 pm today, rally drivers will race the outlined circuit to “warm-up” the engines. The race is organised by the Automóvel Clube de Portugal and it will be the fourth stage to score to the WRC- World Rally Championship, to be held between 20 and 23 May, as previously planned for 2020, before it was halted by the pandemic. The event will be televised by RTP and streamed to over 160 countries.

Porto Book Fair 2021 applications are now open and run until 4 June

Applications for Porto Book Fair 8th edition kicked off yesterday, 17 May and run until 4 June. Wannabe participants must apply by filling in the necessary documents regarding registration, Terms and Conditions and Registration Form.

Fairs and markets receive new urban furniture by Porto City Hall

Sellers at the Antiques and Junk Fair are now more comfortable at the Praça do Dr. Francisco Sá Carneiro, aka Praça Velásquez, as they were gifted new urban furniture that will make their businesses literally easier, come hell or high water.

Porto will have Night Watch Guards in the city’s streets

The Municipal Executive has unanimously approved the implementation of a night watch guard services, which would extend to the 11 areas in the Historic Centre, as well as in Ramalde, in Lordelo do Ouro and Massarelos. The extension of such services are under consideration.

Porto Super Special Stage Rally de Portugal updates

This event will not be open to fans, due to coronavirus concerns; nonetheless, aficionados will have the opportunity to watch a Super Special via RTP television transmission. This event scores for the ranking of the WRC programme and the fascinating leg of Porto is scheduled for 22nd May, this time with a Super Special stage at the Forte de São João Baptista, in Foz do Douro. The assembly of the event’s infrastructure is ongoing and on 18 may drivers test the Super Special Porto Leg.

Estádio do Dragão hosts the Champions League final

Manchester City and Chelsea will fight for the coveted title of the best European club, on 29 May, at 8 pm, at the Estádio do Dragão, in Porto. This was an announcement by the FC Porto and the Portuguese Football Federation.
