The Feira dos Passarinhos, which is normally set up in the Alameda das Fontainhas, will be relocated to Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, on grounds of public space organization and to give new impetus to the city, under the support to the itinerant entertainment business sector. This is a temporary move, which will be in place between 23 May and 10 July.

Thesupport by Porto City Hall to the travelling amusement sector, which was hard hit by the pandemic constraints, comprises the assignment of three public sites, namely the Fontainhas, the Rotunda da Boavista and Lordelo do Ouro, between 21 May and 30 June, where businesses will be located until 10 July; hence the need to temporarily relocate the traditional Bird Fair (Feira dos Passarinhos).

In addition to this change, the Municipality exempted the amusement businesses from the usual payment of fees and licensing, worth 155 thousand euros, guaranteeing the policing of the three public spaces, during operating hours, as well as the electric infrastructure of the assigned sites, up to the maximum amount of 30 thousand euros.

This measure is the result of a protocol with the three associations that represent the sector, such as the Associação dos Profissionais Itinerantes Certificados (APIC), the Associação Portuguesa de Empresas de Diversão (APED) and the Associação Movimento Empresarial dos Itinerantes de Empresas de Diversões e Similares (MEID), that provides for full and ongoing compliance of all the preventive health measures issued by the DGS for equipment use, entertainment and catering, occupancy capacity, use of PPE’s and space sanitation.

In turn, relocating the traditional Feira dos Passarinhos gives way to a new leisure and shopping experience, on weekends, at Avenida Rodrigues de Freitas, as since June 2020, there is a strategy in place to boost a more aware mobility.

The opening of non-food fairs and markets has been authorized by the Municipality since the easing of the lockdown, in the beginning of April.
