The countdown to Christmas begins in December and, in the streets of the city, markets are already a tradition of the Holidays.

The “Palácio de Natal” (“Christmas Palace”) thus promises stage and itinerant entertainment, workshops, a market, and lots, lots of music making up an entirely free programme designed for all ages.

A few days before Christmas, and appealing to this season’s spirit, the city’s company Porto Ambiente recalls the importance of recycling and correctly dispose of the waste that can be repurposed.

In the programming dedicated to families there’s no lack of story telling sessions with Saphir Cristal and Kiara Terra, dancing by Companhia Jovem de Dança do Porto, which presented the season’s classic “The Nutcracker”, but also juggling and balancing techniques with the “Natal a Rir” cycle.

The journey that promises to go beyond the walls of one of the most iconic show rooms in the city will take place until January 2nd. At the age of 80, the Coliseu Christmas Circus no longer wants to be the greatest show in the world, but in the universe. In an edition inspired by unknown galaxies and planets, it showcases an adventure without a net that challenges all the limits of circus technics.

The spirit of Christmas season is felt in the city. The lighting shines around 80 streets, squares, plazas, and gardens in Porto, where you can, again this year, find a Christmas tree in front of the City Hall building.

Organisation is looking for those who want to share the season’s tradition with foreign students living in the city.

The Municipality’s priority is to guarantee that the Christmas season is safe in the city and, at the same time, to contribute so that economic activity remains strong.

On December 1st Porto starts celebrating the most beautiful time of the year, with the switching on of the city lights and the big Christmas Tree that is back to Praça do General Humberto Delgado. This day also includes a free concert at the Super Bock Arena – Pavilhão Rosa Mota, with Bárbara Tinoco and several guests.

Preparations are almost complet, and from Saturday onwards the stands at the Christmas Market in Porto will be open to receive visitors.
