Christmas kicks-off in Porto, where thousands gathered at Avenida dos Aliados to watch the Christmas tree lighting inauguration.

The Christmas tree, most likely everyone's favourite symbol of Christmas, is the main venue for Christmas events this holiday season in Porto. By tradition, the city of Porto offers the most memorable and fun holiday activities by the Xmas tree and this year is no exception.

The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be on December 1. The Xmas tree will remain lit until January 8 of next year, and will be lit everyday at 5:30 pm. The ceremony will take place in the Avenida dos Aliados, by the city's Christmas tree, in front of the City Hall.

Porto Christmas Tree will be lit for the first time on Thursday, December 1, at Aliados, in front of the City Hall building at 5 pm. The city will also be twinkling with Christmas lights lining through the streets.

The city will have two active natural ice rinks: from December 1 to January 8, one in Mouzinho de Albuquerque Square (aka Rotunda da Boavista) and another in Praça da Batalha. As has been the tradition in recent years at Christmas in Porto, children and grown-ups will be able to cheer up, snow playing and risking a pirouette in the ice rinks.
