The first of December the city lights up for Christmas

The annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will be on December 1. The Xmas tree will remain lit until January 8 of next year, and will be lit everyday at 5:30 pm. The ceremony will take place in the Avenida dos Aliados, by the city's Christmas tree, in front of the City Hall.

The ceremony will include a musical parade, a multimedia spectacle of light and pyrotechnics, followed by a performance by Vozes da Rádio as well as Christmas carols.

The tree is 26 metres in height by 12 metres in diameter. Decorated in blue and gold and with dynamic lighting, it will be topped by a giant 4 metres star, reaching 30 metres in height.

This year more streets, squares and roundabouts will have christmas lightings with over 1.9 million incandescent micro bulbs.

The warm white, with a golden hue, will be the predominant color in the city's Christmas illuminations, combined with blue decorative details.
