“Qui a tué mon père” premières at São João National Theatre

The Teatro Nacional São João (TNSJ) takes to the stage the national premiere of the work “Qui a Tué Mon Père” [“Quem Matou o Meu Pai”. In Portuguese], this 7th and 8th January, at 7pm. The performance was especially designed as a theatre play by the novelist Édouard Louis, in 2018.

Municipal contingency plan for cold wave has been activated and will remain in place in Porto

The Municipality of Porto has activated its contingency plan for extreme weather conditions affecting the homeless and the most vulnerable population in the city of Porto. The plan is in place as of 30th December 2020 and the response is coordinated with the Emergency Temporary Shelters and the solidarity restaurants for the homeless. These measures are appropriate to the needs, and there is still availability to accommodate more people. These facilities house 23 people, for the time being.

Shuttle new edition opens applications for 2021

Shuttle new edition, approved by the Municipal Executive early December, will be effective until October 2021 and it includes financial support, such as logistic expenses and production costs, to be awarded to artistic creation projects in the Invicta, throughout the year. The goal is to promote the solidification of artists, cultural agents and spaces’ activities in Porto.

Book on the Liberal Revolution in Porto is shortlisted as Best of the Year, says the Almanaque Republicano blog

“1820: Revolução Liberal do Porto”, a 500 page book catalogue, by José Manuel Lopes Cordeiro, published by Porto City Hall, under the celebrations of the Bicentennial of 1820 Liberal Revolution, was granted the “Best Book of the Year 2020” title, in the field of Portuguese Contemporary History, by the “Almanaque Republicano” blog.

Get ready to visit the University of Porto, either in person or from home! Yes, it is possible

Everyone can visit amazing spaces within the University of Porto, either in person or from one’s home; the building of the Rectory, the Porto Botanical Garden and the Casa-Museu Abel Salazar are now included in the UP’s virtual mapping project. This is an even more worthwhile project amid the ongoing pandemic, when the set of 3D tours by the U.Porto is available and invites everyone to enter spaces that aren’t normally visited by the community.

The new season at Casa da Música kicks off on 15th January, with Luca Francesconi taking the role of resident composer. Cellist Marc Coppey, from France, is the resident artist. The programming will feature an opera by Verdi and Puccini, conducted by maestro Martin André and performed by the Porto Symphonic Orchestra.

Creativity says Porto and the Northern Region

The tourism campaign themed ““Lá em Cima” [“Up There”, free translation], launched in July 2020, by the Porto Tourism Association (ATP) and the Tourism of Porto and Northern Portugal (TPNP), was granted awards in three categories of the Prémios Lusófonos da Criatividade (Lusophone Creativity Awards, free translation]: a Silver award for the copy, in the Production Category, and two Bronze awards in the Digital Category, for the efficacy, both for the digital campaign and the web video.

Seven new urban art projects will define the Mural da Restauração

The seven artists that will present their artwork under the programme of Porto Urban Art have been selected: Diogo Pintampum, Low Class Club, Matilde Cunha, Leonor Violeta, Mariana Bento (Malva), Tiago de Carvalho (Oaktree), and Henrikas Riškas will display their artistic interventions in the city’s public space. This is in accordance with the Open Call, launched last 12th December. The initiative is implemented by the municipal company Ágora – Cultura e Desporto do Porto.
