Everyone can visit amazing spaces within the University of Porto, either in person or from one’s home; the building of the Rectory, the Porto Botanical Garden and the Casa-Museu Abel Salazar are now included in the UP’s virtual mapping project. This is an even more worthwhile project amid the ongoing pandemic, when the set of 3D tours by the U.Porto is available and invites everyone to enter spaces that aren’t normally visited by the community.

The goal is that special places within the UP are visited by those who do not get the opportunity, for whatever reason, to go there in person. So, Google Street View will take you there.

Some of the places to visit include the Rectory Building and the impressive “Salão Nobre”, featuring the Portrait Gallery in the Council Room or the Rector’s office. And let’s not forget the Casa Comum, to the sound of piano playing.

Among the special places are also Porto Botanical Garden, the Gallery of the Biodiversity and the famous Jardim dos Jotas, with a stop over by the also unique Jardim do Xisto.

The Casa-Museu Abel Salazar is now an information centre devoted to the prominent scientist, professor and visual artist. It is located in São Mamede de Infesta.

All this you can savour on a “rainy” day as, whenever possible, the UP remains with open doors to welcome all who wish to visit it, upon prior scheduling.
