The road that connects Porto to Santiago de Compostela has experienced a new stage with the participation of the Municipality in the IACOBUS MUNDI, the meeting of Jacobean cities and territories that promotes the exchange of knowledge in the management of the mobility of pilgrimage and tourism flows.

The councillor for Tourism and Internationalization integrated, alongside cities such as Cacém and Braga, but also the Federação Portuguesa do Caminho de Santiago (Portuguese Federation of the Paths of Santiago), the round table that brought to the conversation the theme “Portugal and the memory of Santiago: recovery and management of the Jacobean paths, the pilgrimage to Compostela and cultural tourism”.

Recognizing the importance of the product “Caminhos de Santiago” (Paths of Santiago) for the city of Porto, currently the third most chosen place of departure to start the route and the main one in Portuguese territory, Catarina Santos Cunha took to the meeting the trailer of the series “Santiago”, which has the support of the Municipality.

In this exchange of knowledge and appreciation of the historical-cultural Jacobean memory, the councillor also recalled how Porto has been involved in the certification of the paths, as well as in the promotion of initiatives covered by the Ano Santo (Holy Year).

It should be recalled that the City Park received the exhibition "Walking the Time. Contemporary Visions of the Way”, with the portrait of ten photographers on the route.

In the year in which the Albergue de Peregrinos do Porto registers the highest number of pilgrims, Catarina Santos Cunha highlighted the role that the Caminhos de Santiago have played, since the Middle Ages, “in the development of the various cultures that integrate the European identity and the importance of pilgrimage flows for the development and connection to local communities”.
