What's next regarding the Future of Internet? Porto provides valuable answers

When the word Internet headlines a text or a congress, the question almost everyone asks is "What's next?" From a computer the size of a room to tapping on a smartphone screen, there are still significant changes ahead.

Porto Customs Congress centre plays host to the 2nd Annual Edition of the Next Generation Internet (NGI) Forum, on 13th September. This event is supported by Porto City Hall, organised by NGI (Next Generation Internet), and promoted by The European Commission.

This event gathers technology specialists, government agents, activists and researchers to discuss the future of internet. The main goal of this initiative is to devise what lies in a near future regarding the Internet and ways to improving it.

The main topics on the agenda are the trust factor on the Internet, social artificial intelligence, Internet software, decentralised data governance, block chain and network infrastructure.

The world is a global platform for education, business, communication and entertainment. Anyone can get into the matrix through dozens of different devices. It is just a click away.

No doubt that digital technologies have a tremendous impact in urban life. The cities of the future provide citizens and company's connectivity, the Internet is a facilitator of complex problems solving.

Porto is well aware of this increasing struggle within urban contexts, which encompass the social, the political, the economical and the environmental areas that build up a society. Thus, the city has been both investing and implementing technology infrastructure. Also, Porto has developed digital platforms, making the city more effective and more efficient.

NGI was established to influence the future use of the Internet, of interoperable platforms, supporting European values such as openness, inclusiveness, transparency, privacy, cooperation on data exchange and data protection. This project also aims at giving better services to citizens by promoting their engagement and ensuring their active participation.
