UPTEC - the Science and Technology Park of the University of Porto participates in the event "A Transdisciplinary Approach to Social Innovation", in New York, on 12 December.

Experts from IE Business School (Spain), the CUNY - The City University of New York (USA), UPTEC and the creative studio Miew (Portugal) will debate the importance of a transdisciplinary approach to social innovation and the creation of new businesses in such areas as art, technology, humanities and public health.

"It is crucial that UPTEC networks with socially-minded actors from public health and other domains from the university and from the industry. The goal is that these challenges boost research within universities and foster the establishment of new businesses", affirmed Clara Gonçalves, UPTEC's Executive Director.

UPTEC will also showcase the example of the Start-up's School, a programme that was specifically designed for researchers and that, according to Clara Gonçalves, "demonstrates how significant it is to bring lab projects into society".

Miew's founding partner, Orlando Rocha, will attend this event in the Big Apple to show "the importance design can have in the development of social projects and the need to transfer social related research from theory to practice".

The event "A Transdisciplinary Approach to Social Innovation" brings together social entrepreneurs from different countries to develop new ideas and skills and to create a digital platform.
