The University of Porto (U. Porto) emerges as the Portuguese higher education institution with the best rating, according to QS World University Rankings (QSUR) 2024, recently published.

U. Porto occupies the 253rd place, going up 21 positions in comparison to last year’s edition of this higher education international ranking, that results from the performance evaluation of 2.963 institutions, in 104 countries, according to nine indicators: academic reputation (30%), citations by teachers (20%), reputation between employees (15%), employment rate (5%), ration between teachers and students (10%), international students (5%), international teachers (5%), investigation undertaken in international collaborations (5%), and sustainability (5%).

The ranking is led by the North American Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), that takes on this top position for the 12th year in a row, followed by two British universities: Cambridge and Oxford.

In a little over four years, U. Porto goes up more than 100 positions in its annual evaluation, having reached, for the first time, the exclusive group of the 17% best universities in the world. In Portugal, following University of Porto, come the universities of Aveiro (in the 344th position), Coimbra (351st), Lisbon Nova (400th), Minho (611-620th), ISCTE (751-760th), and Portuguese Catholic University (901-950th).
