The young athletes from Porto, Mafalda and Tomás Pires de Lima finished runners-up at the Snipe Class Mundo Júnior in Ilhabela, Brazil, which runs till 12th October.

The athletes of the Atlântico Sailing Club, Mafalda (21 years old) and Tomás (19 years old) have conquered 12 medals both at European and world level, as a pair or among teams. They had been runners-up in 2016 and in 2017 at the Juniors Snipe Class championship.

The Ilhabela race course was tricky for the athletes from Porto, as Mafalda was left with a cold, during the race and they were competing in a rented boat, and thus unfamiliar.

The competition restarts as of tomorrow, with the world sailing racing. Last competition, Mafalda and Tomás will try to perform better than the 14th position, conquered in the latest World Sailing Competition.

The Snipe World Championship Tis a biennial race, and the last competition was held in A Coruña, Spain, in 2017.

The Snipe Class Mundo Júnior in Ilhabela, Brazil, gathers 80 pairs from 12 countries at the Lars Grael Sailing School. Besides Portugal, the race includes sailors from Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, Cuba, Spain, United States, Italy, Japan, Norway, Peru and Uruguay.
