Porto is fully prepared to celebrate New Year's Eve with an epic weekend of events

Porto is fully prepared with loads of New Year's Eve concerts and events for the celebration marking the end of the old year and the beginning of the new.

The celebration begins on Saturday, on 30 December with the 24th edition of S. Silvestre Race, which begins and ends at Avenida dos Aliados. The race combines run and walking, gathering around 15 thousand people and bringing together athletes of 34 nationalities.

Around 10.30 pm, the celebration continues with the band HMB taking on the stage at Avenida dos Aliados.

Sunday, 31 December will be a special day in the city of Porto, featuring singer Aurea, starting at 10.30 pm. At the stroke of midnight the city puts on the traditional display of fireworks and at twenty past midnight, in the early hours of the 1st of January, fun is a must with the band Amor Electro.

There will be two alternative stages, located at Poveiros Square and Amor de Perdição Plaza, with a DJ music selection that will cheer partygoers up till dawn.

Thousands of partyers are expected to celebrate the coming of 2018 in Downtown Porto. The authorities have established mobility plans to ensure this New Year's celebration runs smoothly, both on Saturday and on Sunday.

Celebrators are advised to take public transports (buses, Porto Metro, and trains) to get to the parties, avoiding bottlenecks and other traffic constraints. Another suggestion is to resort to the "park and ride" modality in conjunction with parking areas.
