As of the end of October and throughout the year, there will be two new weekly flights from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport. The destination is Sal Island, in Cape Verde, with the operation being carried out by the low-cost airline easyJet.

'The implementation of these new connections demonstrates easyJet's commitment to maintaining its growth in Portugal, offering solid alternatives to reach a destination so dear to the Portuguese and with a great historical connection', the carrier said in a statement.

During the event to launch the new route, the company's general manager, José Lopes, added that 'the celebration served not only to give easyJet travellers more destinations, but also to strengthen the ties between the communities of Portugal and Cape Verde'.

Cape Verde's Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, considers the Portugal - Cape Verde connection to be the fulfilment of 'a desire and an expectation that we hope will have a positive impact on strengthening the country's position in the tourism market and diversifying the offer for Cape Verdean citizens, both in the country and in the diaspora'.
