Pianist Daniel Cunha gives an exclusive recital with works by Alfredo Napoleão

Pianist from Porto, Daniel Cunha will open the season at Casa da Música with a recital entirely made up of works by Alfredo Napoleão, composer and pianist born  in the city of Porto (1852-1917).

Daniel Cunha holds a PhD in Musical Arts/Piano and developed his studies under the guidance of Sequeira Costa, with whom he studied at the University of Kansas, where he completed his PhD in Musical Arts/Piano. After winning the first prize of the Helena Sá e Costa Competition in 2004, Daniel Cunha was considered the best Portuguese artist in Vianna da Motta International Music Competition in 2007.

The pianist carried out a comprehensive research of the work of Alfredo Napoleão, whose music shows a significant influence of the romantic Chopin and Liszt, but also of the bel canto.

This concert will be held on 2 January, at 7.30 pm, Room 2 at Casa da Música and the classical repertoire includes Alfredo Napoleão Prelúdio e Fuga, op.41; Suspiros do Tejo, op.38; Lenda da Beira, op.39; Rondó, op.47; Andante et Polonaise, op.27 (piano solo version).
