FADEUP retired Professor is Canoeing World Champion

José Augusto dos Santos is the proud winner of the Masters competition (70-74 years rank) of the Worlds' Canoeing Marathon, taking place in China.

The former Professor at the Faculty of Sports of the University of Porto covered the 14.6 kilometres of the water sports competition in one hour and 15 minutes and won the gold medal.

The competition was held in the Chinese city of Shaoxing. This is another triumph by retired FADEUP Professor. José Augusto Santos had already won the veterans competition in 2018 - over 70 years rank - of the Marathon World Cup, in Ponte de Lima, Portugal.

A native of Porto, José Augusto Rodrigues dos Santos, 70 years old has a degree in Physical Education by ISEF / Superior Institute of Physical Education of the University of Porto (former FADEUP) and was coordinator of the Water Sports Institute, and also lectured rowing and canoeing at the Faculty.

He was a Professor but also a sports man, and as a high performance athlete he was part of the Portuguese Canoeing national team, a football, rowing and canoeing coach and a physical trainer of the Portuguese team (Euro 2000) and the South Korean team (2003-2004).
