"Que ainda alguém nos invente" [May someone invent us still] is a joint cooperation between the Municipal Theatre and the Teatro Griot, which will premiere at Campo Alegre auditorium, on 2 March, starting at 9.30 pm. The performance is repeated on Sunday, 3 March, at 7 pm.

The life of Queen Anna Nzinga (c. 1583 - December 17, 1663), also known as Njinga of Angola forms the basis for this performance. She came to power as an ambassador after demonstrating an ability to tactfully defuse foreign crises, as she regained control of the Portuguese fortress of Ambaca.

Nzinga was a queen but also a wife, a lover, a sister and a mother. She talks to herself and invokes the dead. The Queen will tell her side of the story, exempting herself from the deceit of a past that was forged, deified and immaculate in its purpose.

Today, she is remembered in Angola for her political and diplomatic acumen, as well as her brilliant military tactics. Accounts of her life are often romanticized, and she is considered a symbol of the fight against oppression.

Teatro Griot is a company of actors, headquartered in Lisbon and sponsored by Lisbon City Hall, whose fundamental purpose is to create artistic performances in the context of the emerging contemporary and cross-cultural European identity.

The Company has staged texts by authors such as Wole Soyinka, Pepetela, Breyten Breytenbach, Shakespeare, Lynn Nottage, Aeschylus, Al Berto or Genet, directed by Rogério de Carvalho, Nuno M. Cardoso, Guilherme Mendonça, Bruno Bravo, António Pires, João Fiadeiro and Zia Soares.
