The Jazz Orchestra of Porto takes part of the Cultura em Expansão Programme, on 16th June to talk and hear about jazz, sonorities and stories to share with Pasteleira residents, starting at 9.30 pm.

This is the fourth concert in the context of the "Fala-me ao Ouvido" project [Whispering in my ear (free translation)], which invites to a journey that lets you in on what jazz really means. Porto Jazz Orchestra will perform the greatest jazz hits from the USA, revisiting the golden swing age, featuring Buddy Rich, Glenn Miller or Duke Ellington till modern jazz today.

This project is all that interesting for a whole host of reasons. To start with, jazz has had a major influence on most popular music genres in the 20th century, like rock, hip-hop, Latin and many other. Also, jazz music embodies the American ideal of collaboration mixed with individuality, and it interlinks with different areas of American life nowadays, such as movies, dance, art, literature, and race.

This "journey" lasts one hour. Entrance is free but subject to room capacity.

The concert begins at 9.30 pm at Associação de Moradores do Bairro Social da Pasteleira - Previdência/Torres, Rua Gomes Eanes de Azurara, 129.
