University of Porto honours Siza Vieira

Álvaro Siza Vieira was awarded the Medal of Merit of Porto University.
The Portuguese architect, internationally recognised and one of the largest global references of Porto Architecture is the third entity to receive this elevated distinction, by the "genius of his architectural oeuvre". 

The prize-giving ceremony was held on 18th June at the Faculty of Architecture of Porto University- FAUP. Siza Vieira taught at this Faculty and is Professor Emeritus of this institution.

On that occasion, the exhibit "Neighbourhood: Where Alvaro meets Aldo", was inaugurated and will be on show till 17th September at the FAUP Exhibit Gallery.

This is the first time the exhibit, which represented Portugal at the Venice Biennale of Architecture in 2016, is on show in Porto.

He has studied Architecture at the Higher School of Fine Arts in Porto (ESBAP) from 1949 to 1955. He won the Pritzker Prize in 1992 and is the author of many renowned projects worldwide. In the city of Porto, Siza Vieira designed the Serralves Contemporary Art Museum, The FAUP Building and the Bairro da Bouça, whose exhibit "Neighbourhood" was featured in Venice.
