The Forum of the Future debates ancient versus contemporary thinking

The Forum of the Future is held this year from 4 to 10 November, featuring over 50 guests from 17 countries. Among invited speakers are Lebanese artist Ali Cherri and Russian activist Nadya Tolonnikova, Pussy Riot leader. All events are participation free.

"Ágora Club" is the theme of the 5th edition of the Forum of the Future, which will embrace eastern civilization. "For one week, we will debate ideas and issues that we deem relevant to encompass our age and present time", said Rui Moreira, Mayor of Porto and in charge of the Cultural Department of Porto City Hall.

"We still regard this project a very special opportunity, for several reasons, for the city to compare ideas from important thinkers", Rui Moreira enthused.

The Forum of the Future is the perfect platform to discover lines of thinking that mark societies at a global level, "as well as the new trends of thoughts, in the field of social and human sciences and arts, literature, politics, architecture, astronomy, philosophy, visual arts of different latitudes, inviting us to look beyond Europe and the West".

The Forum of the Future as a Festival of thought is organised by Porto City Hall, however, it is also a political statement of the city of Porto", according to Rui Moreira, with increased international visibility.

The place to be for one week, from 4 to 10 November are Rivoli, Teatro Nacional São João, Casa da Música, Serralves and mala voadora, as well as Ateneu Comercial do Porto, Stock Exchange Palace, Palácio do Bolhão and Cinema Trindade.

This year's edition focus on Ancient times and their influence on contemporary culture, which will help us reflect on our time and mostly about the future.
