The 500 years of the circumnavigation and the appropriation of identity are some of the key topics for the next edition of the Forum of the Future.

In 2019, the organisation of this major cultural event in the city of Porto will dwell on the "Voyage", as announced by Mayor Rui Moreira, in the context of the closing session of the 5th edition of the Forum of Thought.

As is tradition, Rui Moreira revealed the leitmotif of the 6th edition of the Forum of the Future and the key word is "Viagem" [Voyage], with the commitment to tap into two milestone events, namely, the 500 years of the circumnavigation voyage and discovery led by the Portuguese Ferdinand Magellan between 1519 and 1521 and the impact of man's journey to the moon half-century ago.

Mayor Rui Moreira, who is also in charge of the Culture Department at Porto City Hall, highlighted the high levels of public participation, evermore drawn to the quality and eclecticism of the programming.

"It makes us believe that it is worth thinking the future from the city of Porto. This was our dream five years ago and it is a dream that lives on", Rui Moreira stated.

The Mayor declared that the Forum of the Future is the result of "a great effort and a small team".

The Forum of the Future is an event the city of Porto takes pride in and "we are rolling our sleeves up and set to work". Rui Moreira challenged audiences to think about next year's topic, which, no doubt, "will move hearts and affections, guilt feelings, and varied other feelings".

After all, this "Voyage" will lead us to the circumnavigation era and to analyse "occupation and appropriation of identity, as well as the profound changes in our civilization".

Also, the impact of man's first steps on the moon will not go unnoticed. Neil Armstrong's great achievement will be something to talk about in the next edition of the Forum of the Future.

Now, this is food for thought, indeed! See you in 2019 at the Forum of the Future in Porto!
