The FBAUP opens the exhibit on the image, the technique, and the inventories by Emílio Biel at the Exhibition pavilion, today at 6pm. Entrance is free.

This work was carried out and released by Biel through his printing house for the Association of Civil Engineers, current Portuguese Engineers Order. It features nine large sized photo books on the major Construction and Engineering projects.

The German photographer, editor and entrepreneur, Emílio Biel was one of the most active reporters in the field of photographic reporting of the second half of the nineteenth century in Europe. It is his one of the most comprehensive land surveys of the Portuguese territory of that time.

The exhibition "Image/Technique" showcases the work carried out by Biel and it documents, for instance, the Douro, Minho and Beiras railway constructions, the modernization of the Port of Leixões and the construction of the Maria Pia Bridge.

Part of this collection was first displayed at the Universal Exhibition of Chicago (1893) and the Universal Exhibition of Paris (1900), revealing a landscape that is occupied by technology and with particulars such as the steam from the machines.

This initiative is organised by the Ci.clo Biennial of Porto Photography. The exhibition will be on show from 30 May till 20 July 2019.
