The creation factor: the grants under the Criatório municipal programme have been approved

The Criatório municipal programme grants were approved during the Municipal Executive Meeting on 31 May. The Criatório commenced on 16 December 2020 and will award 5 grants worth 15 thousand euros, with the goal of promoting the consolidation and establishment of artists, cultural agents and space activities in Porto and, as in previous years, to support projects in the fields of visual arts and curatorship, performing arts, composition, programming and musical performing, literature and critical thinking.

With a total budget of 375 thousand euros, the 2021 edition of Criatório features two support modalities: Artistic Creation Projects for the development of projects in the city, for a minimum period of time of six months and a maximum period of 12 months, as well as Programming Spaces, with the goal of financing logistics and structural requirements, among other, that are related to the programming activity of cultural and artistic venues and artists based in Porto. The outlining objective is to achieve a public and regular public programming, between September 2021 and October 2022.

Out of the 177 applications that were submitted to the tender, in the first modality, the following jury, musician, sound artist and cultural programmer Luís Fernandes, curator and researcher Marta Mestre and performer and stage director Raquel André, selected these creation projects: “Aurora” by Yohei Yamakado; “Cinema Experimental” da Laia - Cooperativa Cultural; “CORTEJO” by Solange Freitas and Tiago Cadete; Egídio Álvaro (1937-2020): “Lembrar o Futuro: Arquivo de Performances” by Paula Pinto; “Galeria de Arquitectura” by Andreia Garcia and Diogo Aguiar; “Galeria Ocupa” by Alexandre Teixeira and Filipa Valente; “Goodbye Issues” by Irina Pereira; “Hiperbórea: Movimento Bonfim” by Lovers & Lollypops; “Larache Genet” by Mauro Cerqueira; “Marégrafo” by Gil Delindro; “MIRAGEM - discursos sobre o fim” by Joana Magalhães; “O QUE VEM DEPOIS DA ESPERANÇA?” by Teatro Universitário do Porto; "Quatro Vezes João Liberada” by Tomás Paula Marques; “Seis Práticas de Alegoria Política” by Sofia Lemos; “Terebentina: Um palmo acima do chão” by Guilherme Oliveira.

As regards the second modality, the jury, who consisted of curator Inês Grosso, sociologist, researcher and consultant Pedro Quintela and programmer and curator Pedro Rocha — decided to grant support to 10 spaces devoted to several artistic areas and from different geographies in town, such as A Sede, CRL - Central Elétrica, DENTRO, Escola das Artes da UCP, Espaço Mira, INSTITUTO, Instituto Português de Fotografia, Ócio, RAMPA and Sismógrafo.
