Tens of thousands are expected to watch the lighting of Porto Christmas tree in Aliados on December 1

Christmas is in town! As of December 1, Porto will officially open the holiday season with the Christmas lighting ceremony, starting at 5.30 pm in Aliados.

As it has become tradition over the past few years, tens of thousands are expected to head to Avenida dos Aliados, in the town centre to partake the spirit of a festive town centre.

Partygoers should mind conditioning of traffic in the city on that occasion, ergo it is advisable to use public transportation - subway, buses - so that celebration is done smoothly.

An appropriate security perimeter shall be installed around Avenida dos Aliados and the surrounding roadways, between 4 pm and 8 pm on December 1st, with no car traffic allowed.

The car parks especially allocated to this event are only available until 4 pm or after 8 pm. Within that time frame it will only be possible to remove vehicles from the parks.

In accordance with the mobility plan created for that event, the "park and ride" method will be implemented, with the use of the "Andante" ticket in the parking facilities of Casa da Música, Campo Alegre and Campo 24 de Agosto. The price to park is 0, 95 euros, for a twelve hour period.

Should anyone prefer to use their car, it is advisable to get to Aliados till 3.30 pm and park in the car parks allocated to this event. The City Hall strongly advises people not to park in prohibited areas or streets.
