Porto City Hall purchased 10 invasive ventilators in Shenzhen and delivered them to the city hospitals, to treat severe covid-19 patients.

The ventilators were bought in Shenzhen, to a state of the art hospital equipment company, through the channels established by the Municipality of Porto.

The ventilators were delivered to the public hospitals in Porto, in the same week that the equipment handed out by the Government are also delivered to this healthcare units.

These ten ventilators are part of a medical batch of 50 ventilators purchased by the Municipality of Porto; an investment of 330 thousand euros, which were borne entirely by Porto City Hall.

Five of these ventilators were be handled to the Municipality of Cascais that will pay the respective value to Porto City Hall, as established between Mayors Rui Moreira and Carlos Carreiras.

The remaining 45 ventilators that are due to arrive in Porto during April, will be handed out to the Hospitals of São João and Santo António to enhance their intensive care units.

Also, the Municipality of Porto set up the Mission Hospital "Porto." at the Super Bock Arena - Pavilhão Rosa Mota, which will work as an extension of São João and Santo António Hospitals regarding specialized care.

Porto City Hall was able to secure this order thanks to the excellent collaboration relationship between Porto and Macau and Shenzhen. Porto is twinned with these two cities. Also, Rui Moreira visited the Chinese Smart City last November.

These visit was taken upon invitation by the then Government Secretary Alexis Tam, who is now the representative of the special regions of Hong Kong and Macau in Portugal, and who has been instrumental in coordinating assistance to Porto.

It is worth mentioning that Porto is developing the only systematic screening to the entire aged population living in retirement homes and respective caretakers. This enabled testing over 2100 people. This programme is coordinated with both public hospitals in Porto and the city's healthcare centres.
