Porto-Macau invaluable friendship

Alexis Tam Chong Veng, the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macau, the fifth most senior government official in Macau is in Porto to further cooperative and friendly relations in the areas of tourism, culture, education, health and sports.

Mayor Rui Moreira welcomed Mr Chong Veng at the City Hall on 11 February, marking the Porto Macau twinning since 1991 and highlighting this "invaluable friendship", which Alexis Tam compared to Port Wine, as it gets better as time goes by.

This visit took place to celebrate the 40 years of diplomatic relations between Portugal and China. The delegation from Macau was also composed of Macanese students who performed martial arts techniques and acted excerpts of Chinese opera.

Alexis Tam enhanced that the Chinese government has put in a great deal of work to promote the Portuguese language and culture in Macau.

Both Rui Moreira and Alexis Tam see that culture and tourism are important vehicles for the encouragement of contact and essential tools of cooperation between Porto and Macau.
