"Setting the table for Africa" is the motto of a solidarity fundraising campaign that brings together several restaurants in the North and Centre of Portugal, organised by "Leigos para o Desenvolvimento" Association.

This is a Catholic Association and a work of Ignatian inspiration, which shares with the Jesuits Principles and mission. Leigos para o Desenvolvimento is a non-profit association recognised as a Development NGO since 1995 by the Portuguese Government.

The campaign, sponsored by chef Chakall, is promoted by the association's nuclei of Lisbon, Coimbra and Porto and consists of two gastronomic weeks that will run from April 24 to May 8, jointly with several restaurants.

The organisation is based on Catholic precepts, inspired by St. Ignatius of Loyola, and shares common principles and a common mission with the Jesuits.

Leigos para o Desenvolvimento is currently working on development projects in Angola, Mozambique, Portugal and São Tomé and Príncipe. It places an emphasis on formal, non-formal and informal education, on organising and stimulating community structures, on education and training, on entrepreneurship and employability, on capacity building among local agents, and on the fostering of a voluntary approach within a pastoral framework.

Part of the campaign profits goes to finance development projects in Angola, Mozambique and Sao Tome and Principe.
