The short film "Russa", directed by João Salaviza and Ricardo Alves Jr., was screened within the 68th edition of Berlinale Shorts, the official short film competition that takes place during the Berlin International Film Festival.

This film was made under the context of the programme "Cultura em Expansão" [Expanding Culture], following an invitation by Porto City Hall and it comprises working with the city residents, namely in the field of cinema.

This film comes after the movie "Ubi Sunt" by Salomé lamas, also invited by Porto City Hall. The Municipality recognises film production as a cultural asset and as such has invited João Salaviza and Ricardo Alves Jr. to develop a filmic documentation on the different cultural and social realities of Porto.

The film directors were in Porto for an artistic residency for a period of three months in 2017 and they have chosen the Aleixo neighbourhood to build up a collaborative process involving residents.

"Russa" was first presented at the closing of the "Cultura em Expansão" in December and now opens in world premiere in Berlin.
João Salaviza, award winning director worldwide, has won Berlinale Shorts in 2012 with the short film "Rafa".

Stay tuned for the "Cultura em Expansão" Programme 2018 as details will be announced shortly.
