Renato Berta delivers a master class at Rivoli on March 14, starting at 10 am, in the context of the cycle to recap the life work of this Swiss cinematographer and director, a pioneer in the art of cinema photography.

This cycle on Renato Berta's works runs from March 14 to 16 and it is jointly organised by Universidade Lusófona do Porto and Porto Municipal Theatre. Entrance is free.

Best known for his collaborations with directors Alain Tanner and Jean-Marie Straub, Berta has also worked with Godard, Alain Resnais, Danièle Huillet, Amos Gitaï and Manoel de Oliveira.

He was awarded a César Award for Best Cinematography for Au revoir les enfants in 1988 and a David di Donatello for Best Cinematography for Noi credevamo in 2011.

In 2013, he was awarded the Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.

Best known for his frame creativeness and the use of light as a photography director, his career extends for five decades.

The recap cycle on his oeuvre at the Rivoli features some of the most iconic films in which Renato Berta participated, namely "Sauve qui peut (la vie)", by Jean-Luc Godard (1980).
