Recalling painter and caricaturist Jorge Colaço through an exhibit at S. Bento Station

"S. Bento Porto Station and the work by Jorge Colaço" is the exhibit on show in the main lobby of this centennial railway station in Porto, which can be visited till 3 December.

The first train arrived at the station in São Bento in 1896, the French architectural style building inaugurated on 5 October 1916 that hosts the exhibit marking 150 years of the birth of Jorge Rey Colaço, the author of over a thousand tile panels in the city of Porto.

This is the perfect opportunity to get to know Porto at the turn of the twentieth century, and the impact of this train station in the reconfiguring of Porto urban structure.

Jorge Colaço (1868-1942) studied art in Madrid and in Paris and became noticed for his oil painting works. He was also a pioneer in graphic design in Portugal and has published cartoons in 1893, in the Portuguese-Brazilian magazine "A Revista".

In 1903, Colaço started working tile as a "canvas" for his paintings, becoming a master in tile painting.

The exhibit is on show at S. Bento Train Station till 3 December.
