Project from Porto selected for European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe 2019

The city of Porto is included in the short-list of selected architecture works in the context of the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe 2019.

Porto Botanical Garden, which includes the Casa Andresen, the Casa Salbert and the Franz Koepp Greenhouses, by Nuno Valentim, Frederico Eça and Margarida Carvalho were nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Award.

This prize is biannual and its main goal is to acknowledge and reward quality architectural production in Europe.

"The selected work is representative of the architectural design in Portugal in the 2017-2018 biennium, considering various types of architecture and spatial framework", as stated by the Portuguese jury.

According to Portuguese Architects, the jury has also recommended that Diogo Aguiar is nominated for the "Emerging Architect" prize, for the work carried out in the interim pavilion of the Serralves Garden".

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe Award of 60 thousand euros was first established in 1987 by the European Union, and it is regarded as one of the most important and prestigious on the international architecture scene.

Special mentions are awarded a cash prize of 20 thousand euros.
