The most innovative idea wins 30 thousand euros. The EU endorses this form of encouragement in the framework of the European competition towards finding "smart city" solutions in the area of mobility, as an integral part of other challenges that lead to three cities within the European Union: Porto (Portugal), Cologne (Germany) and Trikala (Greece).

Under the EMBERS Project (Enabling a Mobility Back-End as a Robust Service), software developers and companies are encouraged to offer their views till 16 January, regarding open technology approaches able to harness practical situations.

Smart Parking is the challenge led by Porto, as stated on the project website:

"Three times awarded Best European Destination, the city of Porto has the experience to be part of the "smart city" technologies. Considering its growth potential and the bet on traffic management, participants to the competition "should develop a solution that provides a better overview on parking areas across town and that provide better conditions for drivers as well", namely regarding earmarking spaces and the possibility to pay via app.

EMBERS is coordinated by a team from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie in Paris. This project is funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020, and aims at developing significant solutions for the area of mobility in smart cities.
