Porto was chosen over Paris and Barcelona to host the most important Textile Congress in 2019, confirming the status of "case study" of the Portuguese Industry, to which the international arena is paying close attention.

The organisers of the event stated the dates: 20 to 22 October.

Speaking to news agency Lusa, the Director General of the Textile and Clothing Association of Portugal (ATP) and organiser of the International Textile Manufacturers Federation (ITMF) Congress in 2019, highlighted that Porto winning this dispute to becoming the host of this important congress "demonstrates that the Portuguese textile and clothing sector is an international case study, closely followed around the world and much appreciated as a business model".

"The way we were able to recover from this complex crisis brings the Portuguese industry the credit of success", stated Paulo Vaz.

"In less than a decade, ATP was able to bring to Porto three major congresses in the Textile Industry all over the world; in 2012 ATP organised the International Apparel Federation (IAF, clothing) and in 2017 it organised the Euratex, the European Federation representing textile and clothing associations".

The hosting of this ITMF event in Porto in 2019 means that the event returns to Europe, after a six year period that was held in Asia. The 2018 edition will take place in Nairobi, in Kenya.

"We expect to welcome over 300 participants" in Porto, including entrepreneurs and top managers in the textile and clothing sector, from China to the USA.

Portuguese textiles and clothing exports accumulate a further rise of 2%, to 2.7 billion euros, and a 6% growth on non-Community markets.
