Following the major natural disaster in Mozambique, in the aftermath of the devastating cyclone Idai, which has also hit Malawi and Zimbabwe on 14 March, the Municipality of Porto will provide monetary assistance to help rebuilding the city Hospital.

Mozambique is now a disaster-stricken country and in need of real help. Porto City hall will make 100 thousand Euros available for reconstruction work in the city of Beira, Mozambique.

The Municipality of Porto will send post natural disaster supporting teams to the country, in the context of their twinning arrangement. Porto and Beira are twin cities as of 1989.

The amount made available was identified by the Helth4Moz, a Non-Governmental Development Organisation headquartered in Porto, which is already in place in Mozambique and in coordination with Porto City Hall. This support will be carried out in step with priorities identified by NGOs and Governmental agencies.

Moreover, Porto city Hall is already engaged in providing any other kind of alleviation, jointly with Portugal Mozambique Association.

The Mayor of Porto has expressed his full support to his counterpart in Beira, right after his knowledge of the terrible events had occurred.
