The first of three documentaries that portray the city of Porto and its traditions has just premiered in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The opening episode invites you to go on board of a journey on rails, from the tram to the Linha do Douro train.

The documentary Von Porto entlang des Douros - ins Land des Portweins travels through the street of the Invicta aboard the traditional tram, passing by the Museu do Carro Eléctrico, but also by the Estação de S. Bento and Baixa, portraying the night of São João and its traditions.

Gastronomy is not left behind in the work by Alexander Schweitzer: Port Wine and Tripas à Moda do Porto are present in the documentary.

The unique MiraDouro train then leads the documentary on a journey along Linha do Douro, towards the terrace cultivation of the Douro Vinhateiro, on a path that ends in Pocinho. Along the way, the typical rabelo boats are also presented to the German public.

This documentary is a result of the shootings that took place in Porto and in the region, between May and June 2022. Apart from this episode, which premiered on November 1 in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, two more episodes will be made, with broadcast scheduled for February 2023 – one of them more focused on the city of Porto itself.

The already premiered episode is available online on the 3Sat channel webpage. For over 30 years, the show “SWR Eisenbahnromantik”, with more than 1000 broadcasts, has been promoting rail tourism worldwide.

The goals are to “show cities, regions, places which can be explored by tram or train in a comfortable and unique way”, explains the responsible team, as well as “feed the curiosity of viewers that are passionate about the railway material. So, the documentaries show technical details too, about the types of trams in the world, from the historic to the modern ones, and what kind of trains run in other countries.”
