Alumia project was launched to mark 20 years of Porto Historic Centre as UNESCO World Heritage.

The project had challenged artists to provide a different night visit to the city historic centre by means of light and shape. The community has responded with huge enthusiasm.

The Open Call for Alumia received a total of 20 applications, with very different creative approaches, in the areas of architecture, urbanism, engineering, design, and the performing arts or audiovisual.

The jury will now choose 7 installations and the results will be announced on 31 January. A total of 3,570 euros will be allocated to each of the selected proposals.

The seven chosen installations will be publicly presented on 24 and 25 March 2017, by occasion of National Day of historical centres.

Alumia project was carried out under the scope of Operational Programme Norte 2020, co-financed by the European Union, for a total of 387 thousand euros.

This is the third cultural project that has the Historic Centre of Porto as the original inspiration for creation.
