International Youth Day celebrated in Porto

From Friday to Sunday, Porto City Hall celebrates International Youth Day (IYD) with several activities targeted at young people.

The first IYD was observed on 12 August 2000. This day was designated by the United Nations to draw attention to cultural, sports and leisure issues surrounding youth.

People can choose from a variety of classes from yoga, Tai chi, Pilates, outdoor cinema, concerts, and exhibitions.

All activities are access free.

This year the motto of IYD Safe Spaces for Youth: "Ensuring that safe spaces are inclusive, youth from diverse backgrounds especially those from outside the local community, need to be assured of respect and self-worth. In humanitarian or conflict prone settings for example, youth may lack the space to fully express themselves without feeling uncomfortable or unwelcome".
