i3S awards innovative solutions to fight Covid-19

The i3S Health Innovation Prize third edition is aimed at researchers and entrepreneurs that come up with "breakthrough solutions" to fight the Covid-19 pandemic. Applications should be submitted till 27th April.

"Boost technologies, medical devices and therapeutic compounds" developed by Portuguese and foreign researchers and entrepreneurs is the goal of this Health Innovation Prize 3rd edition, by i3S. Thus, the challenge is to find breakthrough solutions and options from virus prevention to virus monitoring, by offering safe and precise diagnosis, namely therapeutic compounds or vaccination, or even assistance and protection solutions to health workers.

"There is no question that Humanity is currently fighting a biological war against the SARS-CoV-2 and that society is hoping that biomedical research and innovation bring an arsenal to fight the virus", states Hugo Prazeres, coordinator of the i3S Technology Transfer Bureau.

"With this award we are challenging and mobilizing researchers and entrepreneurs to focus all capacities in solving this problem that has become a health priority", Hugo Prazeres explains to the UP news portal, highlighting that the main goal is to "boost technologies, medical devices and therapeutic compounds to help solve this problem. Knowledge and biomedical solutions are in place, we just need to support the right positioning for this application and accelerate its implementation".

i3S, Tecnimed Group and Vallis Capital Partners companies and Porto City Hall are the sponsors of the 2020 edition of the Health Innovation Prize worth 20 thousand euros. Support and innovation services will be granted to this prize by the i3S acceleration programme Resolve-Health.

Candidates are also eligible to receive products and services by the partners of this edition, namely Patentree, National Innovation Agency (ANI), Porto Business School and Esfera Cúbica - Audiovisual Productions.

Applications to i3S Health Innovation Prize can be submitted till 27th April and the winners will be announced till 15th May.
