Growth of Aeroporto Sá Carneiro reaches 15 million passengers in a year

Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro has never served such a high number of passengers. There were 15 million throughout just one year, a period in which the infrastructure also achieved another record: the 100,000th flight. And both goals were achieved on the same day.

The passenger number 15 million arrived Porto from Istanbul and represents, for ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal and Vinci, the work that the group that manages the space has been undertaking in view of “the commitment to the northern region, boosting the increase of the air connectivity from Porto airport”.

In 2022, the airport had served more than 12,6 million passengers, compared to the prior record registered in 2019 with 13 million people.

The manager also stands out that, on the same day, “a flight from New York was the 100,000th movement landing, during the morning, at Porto airport, also reaching a new record for landings and take offs in just a year”.

The Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro “continues to successfully diversify direct connections to the main markets in Europe and significantly grow traffic in direct intercontinental connections”, assure ANA and Vinci,

These connections, increased by around 51% in number of passengers, compared to the previous year, they confirm.

For 2024, the reinforcement of long-haul flights to North America, have already been confirmed, with destination to cities like Boston, New York, and Toronto.

Porto is connected to more than a hundred direct destinations, with connections provided by 30 airlines. This year, seven more airlines flew to and from Aeroporto Francisco Sá Carneiro, representing 17 new routes.
