The Serralves Foundation, in Porto, will host the 9th edition of The Green Project Awards on January 23, in Serralves. Porto City Hall organises the event in conjunction with Lipor.

The GPA aims to distinguish national entities that stand out for their contribution to the sustainable development of Portugal, but also discuss the sustainability of cities in the new economic paradigm.

Since its inception in 2008, the Green Project Awards have honoured and distinguished merit in projects that foster sustainable development towards a green economy. Organized by the Portuguese Environment Agency, Quercus and GCI, the initiative has already received over 1000 applications in Portugal and has awarded more than 50 projects.

The Green Economy Report is compiled by UNEP's Green Economy Initiative in collaboration with economists and experts worldwide. It demonstrates that the generation of decent jobs enables the elimination of persistent poverty, thus facilitating the transition to a green economy.

The list of finalists to the GPA'16 includes two projects co-managed by Porto City Hall, namely CidadeMais and FUN Porto ("Native Urban Forests in Porto"), both in the Mobilization Initiative category.

In this 9th edition, the Green Projet Awards promotes national and international cooperation, with a new Conference Cycle. Philipp Rode of the London School of Economics and Cláudio Silva of New York University are some of the confirmed speakers.

Registration is free but mandatory. More information at www.gpa.pt.
