In the past five centuries, the word Fantasia has been understood differently when it comes to music. It led composers to combine inventiveness, imagination, and artistic sensitivity in various ways and in the renaissance, this was the dominant genre in instrumental music.

The Casa da Música Choir presents Franco-Flemish motets, alongside 20th century works of considerable merit, such as Ligeti Three fantasies.

The brilliant Pedro Burmester will interpret the music of Beethoven, namely The Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor "Quasi una fantasia", Op. 27, No. 2, popularly known as the Moonlight Sonata. Composer Daniel Moreira got inspiration in this masterpiece and created a new composition that will be premiered by Remix Ensemble at Casa da Música.

German composer Johannes Schöllhorn, also a long standing collaborator of Casa da Música, wrote a composition on a Bach Fantasia, which will be presented in world premiere by the Symphonic Orchestra.

The Baroque Orchestra interprets Telemann's compositions, namely sacred cantatas, overture-suites, and types of concertos for combinations of instruments that no other composer of the time employed.

Internationally acclaimed Portuguese pianist Artur Pizarro interprets the theme of this Cycle - Fantasia - performing pieces from the Baroque period to Mendelssohn and Liszt.
