Concert in favour of Syrian students brings together Pedro Burmester and Mário Laginha at Casa da Música

Renowned pianists Mário Laginha and Pedro Burmester will play on 4 February at Casa da Música to support students from Syria. The concert is scheduled for 6 pm and it is jointly organised by Casa da Música and the Global Platform for Syrian Students.

This event is held under the high patronage of the former President of the Republic, Jorge Sampaio.

The concert programme features works by Laginha, Chopin, Piazzolla, Debussy and Ravel.

This is a unique opportunity to hear this two excellent pianists who will share with the audience memorable moments.

This concert is prompt in a spirit of solidarity and it also features an extra presentation of the recitals programme "Concert for Two Pianos", which Burmester and Laginha are touring in music halls across the country.

In the context of this tour, the pair will play at Sala Suggia at Casa da Música in the late afternoon on 3 February.

The Global Platform for Syrian Students is a non-profit organisation, funded in 2013 by Jorge Sampaio, and relies, among other, with the support of the European Council.

In an unprecedented way, governments, regional and international organisations, donor agencies, universities, NGO and both public and private institutions join efforts and contribute towards the common goal of helping Syrian students.

Anas, a student from Syria, states:

"I have lived in many places and with people from all around the globe, in a multicultural surrounding, so I have learnt a lot from them. Portugal has given me more than that, it has given me peace of mind".
