Pilots got their first taste of racing in Russia on the 22-23 July. Kirby Chambliss became champion in Kazan, known as the "Sports Capital of Russia". The American pilot is the only active pilot in the Red Bull Air Race since inception, in 2003.

This is the second win for the American pilot in the Red Bull competition. Pete McLeod, from Canada, got second place, and Michael Goulian, also from the USA managed to claim third position on the podium.

The next Red Bull Air Race will be contested in Porto on 2 and 3 September 2017.

The two-times champion Kirby Chambliss was the first pilot to enter the final race and won the Russian Red Bull Race with just 58.378 seconds.

Considered favourites to emerge victorious, pilots Yoshihide Muroya from Japan, Martin Sonka from Check republic and world Champion Matthias Dolderer from Germany failed the podium. Adverse weather conditions affected the first competition round.

The next race will be in Porto, Portugal. Porto has hosted the Red Bull Air Race from 2007 through to 2009 and proved hugely popular with the fans lining the Douro River to watch the Race.

In 2009 Paul Bonhomme won in Porto and took the title. Could the same thing happen on the 02-03 September in 2017 or will Chambliss have a say on this?

The Porto race is free for the general public. There are a limited number of hospitality tickets already available.
