Camellia is the plant of the moment in Porto, between March 4th and 5th Porto hosts the XXII Exhibition of Camellias of Porto, at Palácio da Bolsa.

It has been thousands of years that camellias have been grown in China, Japan, Korea and Vietnam as a garden plant. The camellia was a symbol for pureness and longevity and its name means "excellence without pretension".

The plant was named after Jesuit botanist Georg Josef Kamel, who worked in the Far East in the 18th century.

The Exhibition of Camellias of Porto will be accompanied by a supporting and extensive programme that includes various activities, such as the traditional Camellia Market, workshops, shade theatre sessions and a Japanese tea ceremony.

Programming extends to other parts of the city until March 11th.
