The Temporary Market of Bolhão is ready to house traders as the works were concluded on schedule.

The new structure includes a 5,000 square meters in Shopping Centre La Vie. It provides traders the necessary standard of comfort and hygiene as well as the operational conditions to run their businesses, which the 100 year-old market cannot provide, at this point in time.

The Temporary Market is located in a nearby street of the original Bolhão Market; it is in Fernandes Tomás Street.

The municipal company in charge of the project - GO Porto - assured that "next week all traders from the original Bolhão (indoor and outdoor establishments) will be able to start operating their businesses in a market of this nature with all the hygiene and safety requirements."

The area offers two separate entrances, easiness of access for those with reduced mobility (fixed ladders and moving escalators, elevator) and direct connection to the parking lot.

Everything is designed according to the type of activity. The traditional areas of the fresh market (like fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, or flowers) are grouped in sections and can be identified according to colour. There is also a dining area and a specific space for the outdoor shops of the original market.

The Temporary Market is the decent and proper solution offered by Porto City Hall for tenants and merchants to continue operating their businesses just meters away from the traditional space they have occupied for generations.

The time allocated to the rehabilitation of this emblematic and landmark building is two years.

These major rehabilitation and structural works in the Bolhão Market were long due and finally Porto City Hall with Mayor Rui Moreira at the helm decided to change the future.
