The Italian island of Lampedusa is most affected by the immigration phenomenon. "Fire at Sea" is a 2016 Italian documentary film directed by Gianfranco Rosi that won the Golden Bear at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival. It will be screened at Casa das Artes, 23 May at 9 pm.

The film is the starting point for the debate that will follow, on the refugee crisis and the impact it had in Europe, conducted by journalist Mário David Campos, from Portuguese magazine "Visão". Also joining the debate will be actress Teresa Gafeira, artist, teacher and researcher Ângela Ferreira and prosecutor José Pinho, who will be the moderator.

Meryl Streep, chair of the Berlin jury, called the film "a daring hybrid of captured footage and deliberate storytelling that allows us to consider what documentary can do. It is urgent, imaginative and necessary filmmaking."

Tickets on sale at Casa das Artes.
