The Amelia Earhart Fellowship 2018-2019, one of the most important and prestigious awards in the field of Aeronautics and Aerospace Industry was awarded to Carolina Furtado, graduate of the Doctoral Programme in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP).

This award is attributed every year to 30 doctoral degree students of any nationality, and it is granted only to women with an exceptional academic record who develop work in the area of Aerospatiale or Aeronautical Engineering.

The student from FEUP was the only Portuguese woman to have been acknowledged such a prize in 2018. Her doctoral thesis, developed in the framework of an MIT-Portugal project, themed "Technology Introduction Based in Advanced Materials in Mobility Industry" contributed greatly to this recognition.

Carolina Furtado said "this award not only acknowledges the institutions where I have studied but it also reaffirms the relevance of my doctoral thesis as of great interest for the industry. That's truly rewarding".

The prize giving ceremony will be held between October and December this year, in a place to be announced.
