Porto Planetarium - The Living Science Centre and the Astrophysics Institute and Space Science promote a regular observation of the Eclipse of the Moon and Mars at opposition, on 27th July at Quinta do Covelo.

This session will take place at the Environmental Education Centre of Quinta do Covelo.

According to the Planetarium, on 27th July 2018, "the longest lunar eclipse in the twenty-first century occurs. On the same day, Mars is at a particularly favourable opposition (Sun, Earth and Mars perfectly aligned in the Solar system), as the two planets weren't as close together since 2003 and will certainly not be until 2035".

This session will enable peering into the universe with a telescope and look into space to observe this phenomenon.

This activity is held in the context of the "Ciência Viva no Verão em Rede" [Networked Living Science in summer] and it will be guided by AI experts.

This event is access free, it is scheduled to start at 10 pm (entrance by the side gate of Quinta do Covelo, next to no. 330, street Álvaro de Castelões).

The lunar eclipse shall last about an hour and a half.

This event will take place with the proviso that weather conditions permit.
