The collective "Teatro do Vestido" features a play based on the memories of those whose parents or close family lived in Africa during the Portuguese colonial period prior to 25 April 1974. The performance premieres June 9 at Campo Alegre Theatre, Stage Auditorium at 9:30 pm.

How do those who have not lived in the former Portuguese colonies relate to those places? Can they connect to their family's memories?

Nostalgia for a past is passed down from parent to child because memory lingers on a daily basis.

This play tries to unveil that long gone time lived in the African continent by Portuguese families and how it continues to present day.

Joana Craveiro and the collective "Teatro do Vestido" deals with issues such as the relationship between historical events and the way they are represented today, memories and life stories, and the poetic and emotional mappings of the cities.

Joana Craveiro founded "Teatro do Vestido" in 2001. She is the artistic director of the collective. She has directed over 30 plays to date, most of which she wrote herself, also acted and co-created.

She attended an acting course at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (1997), has a degree in anthropology from the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, FCSH (2003) and a master's in stage directing from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (2004). She recently finished a PhD atthe Department of Theatre and Performance Studies at Roehampton University, London, on the ways in which the memory of the New State, 25 April and the PREC are conveyed.
