All the energy input in the Municipality of Porto and major municipal companies will be from a 100% renewable source.
One of the main pillars of governance in Porto is sustainability and the Municipal Executive is in place to procure public tenders that promote energy supply from a renewable source.

Besides Porto City Hall, the tender includes the Municipal Company Ágora - Culture and Sports of Porto; the EMAP - Municipal Company for Environment of Porto; GO Porto -Management and Works of Porto; and CMPEA - Company Águas do Porto.

The principle of circular economy applies to all possible sectors so as to boost the commitment towards sustainable practices.

The project "Porto Solar" consists in the installation of photovoltaic systems in 29 municipal roofs, which delivers a reduction potential up to 500 Mt CO2 and equivalent harmful gases.

This project involves the implementation of LED lighting fixtures; also, it includes the project FUN Porto - Native Urban Forests of Porto, to boost the expansion of green spaces in the city; and the replacement of the municipal fleet by electric or hybrid plug-in vehicles; this specific measure has enabled a financial saving of 600 thousand euros on fuel, per year.

This step by the Municipality of Porto contributed to the emission reduction of more than 2.3 thousand tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, in four years.

Moreover, the Municipal Executive of Porto is working on a Municipal Planning that focus on the Ecological and Cultural Municipal Structure.

These are but some examples of the political commitment taken by the Municipality of Porto to achieve a 50% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.
